#Row80 Check In 8/14/11 Emotional Hamster Wheel

Sunday, August 14, 2011

This week has been an odyssey of emotion. First I dealt with the loss of a close friend from high school's mother, a lady that had a major influence on me growing up. Then I had to look at my own mother with her diabetes, congestive heart failure, and kidney issues and hope she wasn't next. On Wednesday, I took a break from writing and spent some much needed time with her, shopping and eating out like we used to. My mom is my best friend, and worrying about her health is a daily bother. But on Wednesday, I let all that go and just focused on her. It was just what I needed.

The last few days have been spent working hard on the synopsis for Light and Dark and getting back on a healthy eating plan. I'd been pigging out the past few weeks, so I'm nipping that in the bud. Cut out the carbs and most of caffeine. This is the third strict day, and I'm feeling more energy and less like I want to rip someone's head off.

And the first draft of the synopsis is done. Yay! It's got a long way to go, but it's a start. I can definitely see the benefit of writing your synopsis before writing the book, as Roni Loren suggests.

I haven't been able to do much on The Prophet this week, but I do have some ideas rolling around my head. I hope to focus more on them in the next few days.

Big hugs to you. My mom is Type 1 Diabetic, and I worry about her all the time - we are also very close.

How fortunate we are to have such a solid relationship with our mothers, though!

Way to go on finishing your first synopsis draft. I know how arduous that is. I think I'll be trying the "write it before you write the book" method next time. :)

Thanks so much for including me in your list!

Thanks, Amber. Diabetes sucks. Mom is Type 2, and it's gotten worse in the past year.

Yes, we are very lucky. I'm grateful.

Yeah, I think I'll try that with The Prophet. I wanted to pull my hair out several times writing this one.

Thanks, and you're welcome:)

Sorry...I hit the trash can by mistake! Here is what I wrote...or something like it.

Stacy,
Thanks so much!

I am so glad you had a nice time with your mom. I can understand how it can be draining to worry about her health. Sometimes it is best it let it go and just enjoy each other.

Yeah about your progress with the Prophet and synopsis! It can be frustrating at times but you seem very dedicated to the end result.

Now I'm off to check out your other links!

LOL, Annie. I've been trying to let go and enjoy her more. She's got to do some things for herself but I can't force her to. She frustrates me sometimes though.

Thanks. I'm getting some ideas for The Prophet and I'm just glad I have something for the synopsis. It's a start. I am dedicated - I just hope there's a payoff.

Thanks!

Stacy, I'm sorry you're having a tough week. Maybe trying to lose yourself in The Prophet might help. I find writing to be therapeutic.

Well done on the synopsis. I think I might need to write something like that for my next book. Might help get my head in the right place, at the very least! Well done on sorting the eating, as well. Much easier to nip it in the bud than lose it all again!

Thanks. The last couple of days have been a lot better. I've gotten a lot accomplished and getting back into the flow of things. Nothing like life's little hiccups, though!

AM
Thanks. This is for Light and Dark, the one I intend to query. I wanted to screech the whole time, lol. I'm going to try it ahead of time on The Prophet and see what happens.

Yep, And fortunately this diet helps me do that. I just have to curb my case of "the wants," which is nearly impossible for me.

Thanks for posting, ladies!

Hey Stacy, Sorry about the loss. That's never easy!

But on the brighter side, getting that first draft down of your synopsis is a huge milestone! Yaya! Thanks for linking to my post!

Thanks, Laura. Yes, that was definitely a milestone. Long way to go but I'm feeling better about it. You're welcome, thanks!
