Tempting Tuesday: A Vase That Changes Colors & More

Monday, July 11, 2011

Yes, you read it right. Ok, I suppose the vase itself doesn't change colors. THe lights inside it do.

The Color Illuminating Vase
"This is the vase that can be customized to illuminate in 300 different colors."
Yes, really. You'd never have to buy another vase! A bunch of LED lights work their magic and "cast a solid hue or transition seamlessly through the colors in two- or eight-second intervals." It's cordless, battery operated, and holds water like a regular vase. Seriously, this is pretty cool. I like red in my kitchen and purple in my bedroom (yes, I like color) so this little ditty would rotate nicely.

Pros: A vase that changes colors! Need I say more?
Cons: How long do batteries last? I'd be willing to spend the $80, but I'm not going to spend a fortune in batteries.

The Always Cool Pillow
A pillow that regulates your head and face temperature no matter the pillow case. The specs say it creates an optimal sleeping climate by preventing overheating. Developed by NASA to help astronauts adapt, this thing's got a 300 thread count hypoallergenic cover.

Can you imagine? No waking up with a sweaty head (especially in the spring and fall here when the temperature fluctuates so much). No sweating means not waking up with oily skin and feeling yucky. That means better skin over all.

But does it really work? Hammacher Schlemmer says so, and NASA's name has to be good for something.

Pros: All night comfort
Cons: Retails for $89.95. Hard for me to spend that kind of money on a pillow.

The Elliptical Machine Office Desk
This one really blew my mind. It's a desk that doubles as an exercise machine. Those of us that are on our butts all day at home can exercise without getting up! According to the specs, the average user can burn about 4,000 calories a week. Not too shabby. Padded seat, adjustable backrest, all sorts of bells and whistles to measure distance, rpms, calories, etc. You can even use it as a chair or work out while standing. Amazing.

Pros: Working out and getting your work done at the same time.
Cons: How much work can you get done while your exercising? I'm not sure I could write while I'm jiggling all over the place. And the cost: 8,000. I'd rather put in new windows and a new deck for that.

What do you guys think? Do you know of any gadgets that would make life so much easier?

I love color changing light thing-ys! They are my 'Schrute bobbleheads' for my workspace.
I actually have this butterfly nightlight plugged in next to my desk whose wings have strips of LED lights that change, I have several Christmas & Halloween decorations around that change color... & friends&family know I love this stuff!
We all have our KitschButton....
Thanks!

This is the first one like this I've seen. Ooh!, I would love the butterfly nightlight. Sounds very pretty.

Thanks for commenting:)

The vase looks fantastic! :)

I don't know... yucky is sometimes good for you. Did you know that urine is good for the skin and eggs for the hair? Just saying. So yeah. Enjoy the goodies! :D

Doesn't it?

Ew! I hadn't heard that and don't think I'll try it, lol. I would love to have the pillow case because I'm always going from hot to cold.

Thanks for stopping by!

An Elliptical Machine Office Desk for 8 grand? Not too flabby, but I think it sounds ridiculous. Who could read while moving? It sounds like it should be equipped with motion sickness bags!

I'm kind of liking the idea of the elliptical machine desk (okay, $8,000 is a bit steep, but lets pretend we just won the lottery...). Now, I have no idea if it would actually be doable and I'd need to see it up close and in person, but I know a bunch of people who say that a treadmill desk works well for them, so why not an elliptical desk?

Also, thanks for the retweet this morning. I appreciate it!

That vase light I would want. If there are changing colour lights nearby, then I'm usually mesmerized. I’m one for colourful Christmas lights over the white ones ;-)

I know right? No way could I work or read while working out on that thing. I'm not coordinated enough.

Jen- really? I don't think I could handle it. A treadmill desk, huh? I've never seen one up close either. But I'd think I could handle that better than the elliptical. And you're welcome!

Linny-
The vase light is totally cool. And I'm the same way with Christmas lights. I hate the white ones.

I know of someone with the treadmill desk (I would think the elliptical is too "jaunty" to get certain things done?). They love it.

I want the cool pillow! I flip my pillow throughout the evening to maintain a cool surface.

Another vote for the treadmill desk. I'm going to have to check that out.

Amber, that's so me. I flip my pillow off and on all night. Drives me crazy.

I'm a recent convert to a standing desk and it works really well. I figure, via the Calorie Calculator at http://www.juststand.org/tabid/637/language/en-US/default.aspx that I'm burning about 150 calories a day by just standing. If I add a treadmill, that would increase, but I don't have the proper room to install something like that. Something for the future.

Would prefer the vase if it was made of fine porcelain instead. Wouldn't that look cool?

Don't I know it. I can think of way better things to spend 8K on.

Kaz
Really? How exactly does a standing desk work? That sounds like a stupid question but you're burning calories by standing? I couldn't stand very long-my back would kill me. Or am I misunderstanding you? I'm tired, lol.

And yes, the porcelain vase would be awesome!

Thanks for posting!

I've seen the treadmill workstations and those look interesting. My favorite gadget is the iPhone. I log notes, calories, mind maps and all types of crazy stuff on that phone.

I miss my iPhone. I got a Samsung Droid and it does all the same stuff, but I think it has more hang-up than the iPhone.
Thanks!

I'm with Stacy Jensen. My favorite gadget is my iPhone (with the iPad coming in a close second). My matchbook sized iPod nano comes in a close third...

The pillow sounds interesting. I prefer a feather pillow, though. There's nothing else that feels quite like it. Have I ever mentioned I'm really, really picky?

I miss my iPhone. The droid's nice but it was awesome to have all my electronics match up. I still use it for music. And I really want an iPad. I just can't justify it since I'm at home and have an awesome laptop, lol.

A feather pillow is great but they always got to my allergies.
