#ROW80 Midweek Check-In 7/20/11

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

The last few days have been a bit rough as I got back into the swing of things after our mini-vacation. But just like Domo, I'm feeling good today:)

Yesterday I was able to edit up to the midpoint of Light and Dark, which was an accomplishment. I've had to move some scenes, cut some scenes, and write some new scenes. I'm rewriting today, but I'm still on pace to have the first edit done by September.

The rewriting is a bit frustrating, but it must be done. Still, it's hard not to want to kick yourself for not getting it right the first time.

As for The Prophet, I'm slagging on that. Haven't done much since I wrote a bunch of notes in the car on the way to Minnesota. Oh, and on a napkin at Arby's. But things are shaping up, and I plan to start the outline tomorrow.

I've also got to get my interview with Matt O'Brien (author of Beneath The Neon) transcribed. He explored the Las Vegas Storm Drains, which play a prominent role in Light and Dark. I'll be posting the interview on Monday.

Blogging is going well. Have to thank Catie Rhodes at Full Tilt Backwards Boogie for the wonderful shout-out today!

On another note, the heat is STIFLING! Yes, I capitalized it because it's that bad. Heat index of 114 today. I'll be doing my exercising indoors!

How are you all doing with your #Row80 goals?

Okay, I'm gonna look like an idiot here, but I don't know what that hashtag means!! lol

As far as revisions, I finished the 2nd draft of a second book and sent off to Critters. Now I'm working on the 2nd draft of another one. Not as creative as writing a 1st draft, but has to be done. :)

I think it's hilarious, you writing on an Arby's napkin. Makes me think of that episode of Friends where Ross had the idea for that movie (can't remmeber which) and he says, "I can show you the napkin!" :)

You're not an idiot! #Row80 stands for A Round of Words in 80 Days. Great way to stick to your writing goals: http://aroundofwordsin80days.wordpress.com/about/

LOL, Critters. I had to think about that one for a minute. Sounds like you're keeping busy.

Yes, usually I keep my phone and use the Memo feature, but I'd left it in the car and between Grace chattering and the long drive, I knew I'd forget. I remember that episode! Classic one.

Thanks for stopping by!

Look at you - you're doing great! Edits and rewrites are tough. Keep up the good work. :)

You'll get it done. If it hadn't been the tunnel disaster, it would have been something else. Believe me on this.

You're doing great on your goals and keep up the good work.

By the way...is that thing in your picture a turd with eyes? Just wondering.

Thanks, Tiffany. Just finished the easier rewrite of today. Now I have to do a brand new chapter. Yay!

LOL, that's Domo. He's a popular Japanese (I think) cartoon character. Reminds me of my best friend because her hubby says that's what she looks like when she's angry.

Thanks for the encouragement. Just have to keep plowing through!

Nice job keeping up with your goals and LOL about the writing on a napkin. We do what we gotta do when inspiration strikes, right? I'm in the Chicago area and our heat index is the same today. Blah!

Stacy said...

Thanks, Erin. Absolutely! You gotta do what you gotta do.

Yuck. I have a FB friend complaining about Chicago, too. Seems like this heat will never break.

I'm curious, will you be saving that Arby's napkin in a folder forever? Or will you transcribe it to neater paper? ;-)

Keep up the good work! I'm ready to switch from planning stage to writing stage next week.

Angela ... would you laugh if I saved it? Cause it's still in my purse.

Thanks! Good luck on switching to the writing stage. I'm still figuring out how to plan efficiently, lol.

Revision is a necessary evil. Too bad we can't get it right the first time!

I'm in awe of this challenge. I know better than to begin it in the summer. We still have a few family trips that will disrupt all. Good luck with revisions.

I know it. Wouldn't that be wonderful? I could definitely get a lot more boosk written.

Stacy
This challenge is great. It's an awesome way to become part of the writing community. But I know all about summer distractions. Thanks!

Small world! I just stopped by from the SheWrites blogger ball and saw this post. I'm doing ROW80 too! I haven't been good about checking in this week, but I've been sticking to my goals. Glad to hear you're making some progress. Editing can be so frustrating. It sounds like you set a lot of goals for yourself, and you're doing well on most of them, so don't beat yourself up too much if you're not doing everything. There will be a time when you'll be inspired for The Prophet and you'll focus on that instead of the editing. It'll all even out in the end. Oh, and I love the Domo pic :D

Row80 is a great way to hold yourself accountable for you writing. Yes, the editing is very frustrating, but I have a feeling this first round is going to be easier than the second. Harder choices to be made, then. Thank you very much fo the comments!
